Wyndham Tamarindo

Tamarindo

Good to Know

Wyndham Tamarindo gives a hillside stay ocean-view balconies, an infinity pool and sunset outlooks over the bay. Pura Vista dining, spa and fitness facilities make hotel time appealing. Free town shuttles run to a schedule, while walking back is uphill. Beach-club access is complimentary; confirm whether free round-trip transfers or the $1 each-way club shuttle applies to your stay.

A wider outlook over Tamarindo Bay

Tamarindo Bay opens out below Wyndham Tamarindo, turning a hillside stay into a vacation with a wider outlook. The hotel’s modern boutique character and Pacific views, especially around sunset, give you good reason to let the accommodation become part of the experience. A small private balcony brings the ocean into every room, while the infinity pool invites an afternoon with no other destination in mind.

Give the view some of your time

The large infinity pool has a swim-up bar, with lounge chairs and sun umbrellas in the outdoor relaxation area. Indoors, comfortable couches provide another place to enjoy the panorama. Daily fitness-room access, a solarium, spa and wellness center let you choose a more active or leisurely interval, with treatments and massages available when you want to make time for them.

Meals above the coast

Pura Vista Restaurant serves Costa Rican and international cuisine, including steak and fresh seafood, with indoor and outdoor ocean-view seating. A breakfast buffet starts the day, and room service gives you another way to enjoy time at the hotel. Town restaurants provide worthwhile alternatives, with shops, live music and nightlife adding a livelier evening below the hill.

The room and the journey to town

Room choices vary by beds and floor, with air conditioning, cable television, a telephone, electronic safe, mini-refrigerator and WiFi among the comforts. Bathrooms have bathtubs and hair dryers. Take time on the private balcony, then plan the change of scene: walking to town takes under 20 minutes depending on your destination, but the return is uphill. A free town shuttle operates on a set schedule, and staff can help coordinate a taxi when that timing does not suit.

Complimentary access to Langosta Beach Club adds another way to enjoy the coast. Confirm the club transport before planning around it: check whether complimentary round-trip transfers apply to your stay or the scheduled service costs $1 per person each way. Do not assume that club transfers follow the free town-shuttle arrangement.

Give the coast and inland adventures their own days

Tamarindo’s different beach areas suit swimming, boogie boarding and surfing under different conditions. Surf lessons are available on the main beach, with bigger waves in Langosta and nearby Playa Grande for another outing. Kayaking on the estuary offers opportunities to look for crocodiles, monkeys and other wildlife. Diving off the Catalinas Islands or a dive-shop course explores another side of the water, while a catamaran cruise gives the Guanacaste coastline a slower rhythm.

For an active day inland, consider a canopy zipline adventure or a full-day visit to an adventure ranch near Rincón de la Vieja Volcano. Choose the outings around your interests, then return to the hillside for the swim, meal or balcony interval you left time to enjoy. The hotel’s outlook is especially rewarding when you allow it more attention than a quick glance between departures.

What to consider when choosing Wyndham Tamarindo

  • Stay above the coast for the outlook: hillside views over Tamarindo Bay and the Pacific, especially at sunset, carry into every room’s small private balcony.
  • Give the pool an afternoon of its own: the infinity pool, swim-up bar, lounge chairs and umbrellas let you enjoy the ocean panorama without heading into town.
  • Plan around the hill: a free town shuttle runs on a set schedule. Walking takes under 20 minutes depending on your destination, with an uphill return; staff can help arrange a taxi.
  • Use complimentary Langosta Beach Club access, with transfers confirmed first: check whether complimentary round-trip transport applies or the scheduled shuttle costs $1 per person each way.
  • Make staying in appealing: Pura Vista serves Costa Rican and international dishes, including steak and seafood, with indoor or outdoor ocean-view seating. A breakfast buffet and room service add convenience.
  • Keep your preferred pace: indoor lounging, the solarium, daily fitness-room access and spa treatments provide several ways to spend time at the hotel.
  • Select beds and floor to suit your party: rooms share ocean views, balconies, air conditioning, a mini-fridge and a bathroom with bathtub, along with other practical comforts.
  • Vary the coastal outings: surf lessons, estuary kayaking, Catalinas Islands diving, catamaran cruises and inland zipline or Rincón de la Vieja adventures are options beyond the hotel. Town restaurants, shops and nightlife offer an evening change of scene.

Beautiful! Love the town, love the view, love the weather, love the place!

Scott G.

The reviews going in made me unsure of what to expect, but everything went very well and I would stay here again. The shuttle ran on schedule, the beach club is very nice, the staff was friendly and helpful and the hotel itself, ignoring the inconvenience of location, is beautiful and well thought out. It was very relaxing and comfortable.

I was so disappointed! The hotel is not near the beach or the town. The shuttle times start late and end early. The road was long, steep, muddy and unlit, making walking hazardous. But worst of all the hotel shuttle was unreliable--twice he left BEFORE the scheduled time. The second time he did that he stranded us at the beach club at night, and we had been careful to arrive at the shuttle stop early. We asked the beach club to call the hotel and they said he had driven by and kept going because no one was there. Well, that was because it was before the scheduled time! We asked them to send him back and they refused. We had to pay $6 for a taxi!

Fantastic. Can't wait to go back.

Upon our arrival they gave us a King bed which was in our reservation so we should have caught that but they quickly gave us a new room with two beds instead. They were very accommodating for that change. The View was amazing and the shuttle to the beach club was great!

driver to take you into town and beach was not the best example of the pura vida lifestyle, even though not being busy he was not flexible at all.....

not my kind of hotel but my other family members loved it. I wanted to be in a bungalow on the beach.

Another beautiful hotel. Food was very limited, but they have free shuttle to town. So you have alot of chocies in town. Lunch menu could have more to choose from because if you want to stay at the pool there is not much.. They could also use more pool chairs. plenty of room. Also every room should have a note stating what a lack of water this area has!!! To make people more conscience of showering and wasting water. Also a note that they are turning off the water in the middle of the day! ! Kind of important.

Wonderful accommodations, beautiful pool, and accommodating pool bar.

Many of the other guests were very loud and rude, and the staff at the hotel did nothing to stop it, despite numerous complaints from many guests. Our room wasn't ready when we arrived and they did not secure our luggage (just put it in a corner of the lobby). On the day we arrived, the restaurant was closed for a private event so we were unable to eat lunch. Once the room was ready and we were able to put our luggage away, the shuttle to town stopped running for the afternoon so we were stuck without lunch until the shuttle started running again around 4. The staff was very poor at communicating about all of this to us.

This is a beautiful hotel with amazing views and sitting by the pool or on the room balcony you can take in these amazing view. The one issue we had is that the hotel had planned a wedding party for one of the nights we were there and they music was extremely loud late into the night and could be heard throughout the hotel including inside our room and late into the night. I suppose that wouldn't have been so bad but in addition to that the staff also cancelled room service and closed the restaurant to the rest of the guests. So on the night we had decided that resting in out room and having dinner at the hotel restaurant would be nice, we could not do that because the restaurant was closed and room service was cancelled. The staff did eventually bring us 2 glasses of wine...which was not done as a courtesy for our inconvenience as they charged us and asked for a tip. While I would stay there again, I would first make sure that they do not have any plans to close down hotel services during my next stay.

The Esplendor has the best views in Tamarindo. The shuttle bus into town was a van for kids (it said so on the side) and had kid sized seats. Very uncomfortable. There was a wedding reception blasting music on 2/20 until nearly midnight. Couldn't sleep because of it.

The best part of this hotel is the pool area (when you can get a seat) for the view and relaxation. However it is a very hilly walk to get to the beach.

This place has a very nice view but that is about it. The restaurant is overpriced and not very good. To get into Tamarindo, they have a shuttle but we were missed by it twice and had to take a taxi. The staff kept blaming us for missing the shuttle even though we were in the place they told us to be. The pool was uncomfortably cold. I wouldn't stay here again but it wasn't bad enough to leave either.

This hotel was an upscale facility and I enjoyed it because that is what I wanted at the end of my trip and expected. They do however need to work on the restaurant menu (not a lot to choose from and many items that were listed but they did not have) and the shuttle to town (not timely if actually there). I hope they work out the kinks and it will be a successful hotel.

Guest review

The front desk seemed short staff as those who were working always seemed to be there. The breakfast was ok, but the pool was fantastic and the rooms were clean, large and beautiful. We really enjoyed the views and the pool and drinks in the pool. A guide to getting a taxi in town up to the hotel would be nice as its not possible to walk at night (very steep and dark roads) or a better shuttle system (just back and forth between the bottom of the hill and the top would have worked.

Guest review

The shuttle was not always dependable. The hours were also short and not consistent. I truly enjoyed the staff that worked there.

Guest review

I would have appreciated information regarding its distance from the beach. It was a long walk! But it is a beautiful hotel and we had a great time.

Guest review

The hotel is new and still working out some problems. There were several times when there was no water in the rooms. The front desk staff need some training on customer service. Getting to town was difficult.
