I agree with the three star rating of this hotel, but really enjoyed it over all. I loved the pool at this hotel, and it had a stunning view of the beach and Sunset. it was super close to the beach (though it was quite an incline, someone with bad knees/hips or mobility issues would have a hard time here). The rooms are very spacious.
My main negative was the water pressure in the shower was quite low. And simpler breakfast offerings than the other hotels we stayed at, but still good. My only other small complaint was that they opened bottled water at the restaurant while we were being seated and charged us $5 for it without being asked if we wanted bottled water at all... this is a minor complaint, but I found it in poor taste to assume when tap water was an option.
And while completely outside their control, so I don't blame them at all, the howler monkeys made a racket at 5:30 most mornings!
We had a really great stay here, and would absolutely book again.

A good experience. The rooms are a bit...weird - no door on the bathroom, not a hook in sight, said there were not the right sized cushions for our outdoor seats when we could see them in multiple empty room around us. But the facilities were so nice, the staff was good. Great pool and access to beach.

This hotel was amazing. We had the best rooms with a view of the ocean - thank you for that! We loved the pool, the breakfast, the easy walk to dinners.

Another highlight. Nammbu was outstanding. The proximity to the beach, the views from the deck, and the restaurant were all fantastic. Carillo much better than Samara.

Not suitable for people with mobility issues. Room overlooked, had to close blinds most of stay. Hygiene not brilliant at breakfast

Just lovely. While the big windows are lovely, they exposed me to other rooms, so they were mostly closed. I believe this hotel needs more employees. We loved Daniel, but it seems they are overworked, and when a big group came in, my room was not properly cleaned. I know they were busy. I think management needs to step up to help this hard-working young staff by hiring more people. Beautiful beach and pool. Very lovely and relaxing stay. Good food, too.

Amazing final stay, would definitely stay again. Staff goes above and beyond. Front desk staff on check out had an issue with our payment cards, but it worked out.

The view is amazing. The private porch is lovely. The bathroom had a lot of mold. The shower did not drain properly, so there was always water in it. There is nowhere to hang wet clothes. It’s a giant room, that wound up looking like a homeless camp because we always had damp or wet clothes, whether swimming suits or just damp regular clothes because of the heat. Front desk staff was the least friendly we met. Dining staff was very nice.

Beautiful location and hotel. The location cannot be beat. The pool area is gorgeous, and they rent surf and boogie boards for the beach. They will also arrange tours if desired. On the first afternoon, we had howler monkeys all around the pool area. It was great. The short walk to Playa Carrillo was awesome as well.
The downsides? The beds and pillows were hard. A little comfort would go a long way. The safe in the room was non-functional. It was also the most expensive place we stayed from a food and drink perspective. I felt we had better service for less money at La Vela.
That all being said, I would definitely stay here again.

They had us booked in separate buildings; finally put us in same building but on different floors. Rooms were large but nowhere to put anything; not a hook or hanger, closet or drawer; only one towel rack for a single towel in bathroom; so not very pleasant. Pool and restaurant were very nice and staff at pool was exceptional.

Great location. Good restaurant. The only compromising issue were the large coach parties of visitors that appeared while we were there.

Gorgeous rooms, gorgeous beach, gorgeous sunsets- Nammbu was the perfect place to stay as we walked down to the beach both days, and were also on the beach for sunset at night. The staff- oh my goodness- they are great. Everyone from Max at the hotel bar to Juan, the captain of the restaurant waiters to Donovan at the front desk- wonderful. This staff knew us by name! It felt very personal and it was impressive and it was such a lovely place to end our amazing week. Because we left at 6 am for the airport, the restaurant made us breakfast boxes to go- unasked!- and the food in the boxes was quite plentiful. The beach at Carrillo is so great- nice waves, warm, and uncrowded- at times we were the only people on the beach. Nammbu was a wonderful experience- made even more special by the super kind and attentive staff- I highly recommend!

The staff here were amazing and super nice. One funny thing is that they had a surfboard next to a sign that said "rent me" but they wouldn't let me rent it becuase they said it was "only for decoration"

Beautiful pool beach and rooms.
Food and restaurant only ok. Hotel felt a bit empty and unfinished like they were building the gift shop and entrance. Less charm than other two hotels.

The rooms and bathrooms are huge and comfortable (although somewhat sterile feeling) with large windows. We could see the beach from our 2nd floor balcony. The pool was very nice with views of the beach below. There is a path down to the road and from there to the beach. The beach is relatively undeveloped and quiet. Great for a beach walk - about 1.5 hours to get to the other end and back. Great waves for strong swimmers to play in, but go to Playa Samara for beginner surfing.

Our room wasn’t finished & still needed a door on the bathroom. It would also be nice to have lights at the beds. Beautiful setting, pool, and views. The restaurant was also very good

Again no elevator. This needs to be mentioned when booking. We had to climb 36 stairs to get to our room. Fortunately the staff was told ahead of time we would need assistance. Thank you Katie, Arturo and I don’t remember the name of the waiter on our first night but they were all friendly and very kind to us.

beds are very hard and uncomfortable; easily accessible outlets or usb power outlets next to beds and at desk would be great; extra towels in room would be nice; need trash can in sink area; need facial tissues; Staff was wonderful!!! beautiful pool; dining room nice, food well prepared; bar cocktail list dated- would have liked to see more inventive/artisan style cocktails offered. Stairs to cross road to beach ok but would be great to have sign at bottom of stairs as to easiest way to get to beach from that point (still a fun adventure)

I love the front desk girls. Very helpful, initiative and friendly. The rooms needs a door for the bathroom and the shower stall needs proper drainage. The bathroom attracts insects of all kinds like ants to scorpions. Breakfast could improve on their timing, variety and cleanliness. Housekeeping was wonderful, rooms always clean and smelled fresh.

This location was very good. There were several amazing restaurants within walking distance and a taxi to Samara was inexpensive. The food was not quite as good as Manoa, but that is a minor thing. A great place.

Originally, we were a little disappointed when we got there but only because of our expectations and that we were not sure we were ready to just hang out rather than go and see wildlife. HOWEVER, we came around in about 1/2 day and really enjoyed our time there. That being said, while the hotel was beautiful, I would sat they could improve with some practical things such as places to hang your robe, more hanging space for clothes and a shelf that did not look like it was going to fall off the wall.

Beautiful setting, stunning views from our room and the rest of the hotel. Great location - away from town, but easy to walk to local restaurants. We enjoyed taking the local bus into Samara, and had a wonderful dinner on the beach. True paradise!

The place had no closet to hang your items. Views great, room roomy & comfortable, breakfast a bit to minimalistic. Not a place to go if you have trouble walking up & down the hill the hotel is built on.

Our view was spectacular! Very large room and bathroom. Enjoyed New Year's Eve special buffet with music. Very short walk to small town with 3 different restaurants. Just down the stairs to the most beautiful beach!

Beautiful hotel across the street from the beach. Had ground floor accommodations which was nice. Hammock was a lovely touch. Breakfasts were really good - mixed it up to not get bored. Restaurant was more $ than others but it was convenient and really liked their pizzas. Walked up the road to hit some of the local restaurants & grocery. Front desk was helpful. Beach was PERFECT.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Nammbu Bungalows. Carrillo Beach is just across the street and when we wanted to go to town, Samara was only a 10 minute drive. The hotel is on a hillside, so there is some walking between buildings and to the restaurant. We stayed in a Suite. Our room was nice and had a good view. The bed was comfortable but the room, in general, was lacking in art and while there was a hot tub on the balcony, there was no hammock or chairs, which was a little strange. We also did not care for the espesso machine. We were given one K-cup per person per night and there was a $1 charge for any additional cups... There was a room safe but we had to put a deposit on the key. The hotel also doesn't provide beach towels and has an outrageous charge of $50 if you are caught bringing a hotel towel to the beach. The restaurant offered an outstanding buffet style breakfast and the service at the hotel was great. We were happy with our choice in staying at this hotel, would return, and will recommend it to others.

Nammbu Bungalows was a wonderful hotel. The view of the ocean from the pool / restaurant area is worth the price of admission. Beautiful. The rooms are spacious and clean. The staff was super friendly and helpful...Keitty in reception and Austin in the restaurant really stood out. The beach is just a short walk away and it is a fabulous beach! The only issue we had is that there is no door to the restroom in the room. If it is just a couple, it wouldn't be an issue, but with a family it is a little awkward.

Incredible place! The drinks and food were more experience than we were anticipating - and unfortunately we were there at the same time as A LOT of children and teenagers - not the hotels fault at all! But we were not expecting to be vastly outnumbered by children at a spa

I know this was peak season and options were limited. For almost $300 a night, we did not have hot water in our room for 3 nights, until the very last evening when I became increasingly upset with the hotel manager, after requesting the water to be fixed many times. To be sure, the entire hotel was without water at times, but this was separate from our own room issue, where there was hot water from faucet, but no hot water from the shower. Our toilet was clogged for one day, despite asking hotel to fix it 3 times. Overall, rooms were very spacious and clean but the whole hotel is unfinished. No closet space in rooms.

Hotel was under staffed and looked as if it has not been finished being built. Was a long way from town and would have preferred something closer. The few staff that were there were very nice. Nobody at all in hotel restaurant in the evenings. Hard to get drinks during the day because nobody was there.

This was THE MOST luxurious hotel we have ever been to and definitely the nicest we saw in Costa Rica. The views from our room were simply amazing. The pool water was very warm and the ocean was just down the stairs from the pool. This hotel is a bit off the beaten track but there are restaurants within walking distance. If you want to eat in town it will be about 8-10 dollars for a taxi. The hotel restaurant is great too.

This place was spectacular! The view from our room was amazing. The nearby beach was beautiful for walking and looking for shells. The pool was refreshing...and everything was so clean! The food in the restaurant was amazing...beautifully prepared and served. The waiters were friendly and knew our names after our first meal. We took a sunset cruise and had a terrific time! I would certainly go back!

Nice hotel, quirky shortcomings on many design decision. Hotel still very much under construction. Carrillo beach is definitely the place to stay. Great places to eat close by. It appears that the hotel is slowly addressing the issues- for instance WiFi is now working everywhere. They now have stairs down to the beach but be careful there is no lighting no handrails and steps are all at random heights. Initially they had us in a room with no view and even though they promised to put us in a different room the next day, we had to really push for them to make good on that promise the next day.

A beautiful hotel with an amazing view of the ocean. Howler monkeys often hung out in the trees by the pool and it amazing. The downfall to this hotel is that it is not fully finished, they are still constructing one of the hotel buildings and there are quite a few areas where landscaping such as bushes, grass, flowers are needed. Like everywhere we visited, staff are fantastic!

WE loved it. Beautiful view, nice rooms and pool. Only real "complaint" is that given how new it is, it was a bit stark (nothing on the walls, no gardens etc). We were a bit disappointed that our patio had no furniture while some other, empty rooms, did. We loved it though and it was beautiful.

Most of the staff were very nice at the hotel. The problem with the hotel is that it seemed to be nearly closed. The decor was sparse. The beach was not very nice near this hotel. The beach in town was nicer.

This place was AMAZING! The staff was great. They were very helpful and accommodating. They were willing to share information about the community and the area. It was a great pleasure to be able to sit and visit with the staff about the area. They went out of their way to make us feel at home. We will be returning to this resort in the very near future. Jason and Diego were extremely helpful.

Wow! for the price this is amazing. I hope it stays this affordable but I wouldn't be surprised if our next trrip it was $295 a night. Great food, pool, room facilities and staff. Occupancy was low so we got the Best room too.

The staff was amazing. The hotel wasn't quite ready. There were issues with the water/toilets. I had several very cold showers and a few times we had no water at all. They didn't have enough pillows or towels for us, and even took some off our bed while we were gone to give to other guests. It's priced a little high, but overall a beautiful place. If someone had mobility issues, they would have a very hard time staying there.
