Heliconia Island

Heliconia Island is a unique bed and breakfast style hotel located in Puerto Viejo de Sarapiqui, on a magical river island covered in tropical rainforest. Amenities include hiking trails, exotic gardens, and abundant wildlife, in addition tone of the most beautiful botanical gardens in Costa Rica.

The Sarapiqui area is renowned for being home to at least 2% of the world’s biodiversity. The area is frequented by National Geographic, scientists, and professors from around the world regularly. The Organization for Tropical Studies offers day tours to discover some of these incredible species. In addition, bird watching, safari floats, rafting, canopy zip line, horseback riding, and chocolate, pineapple, coffee, and banana plantation tours are available in the area. There is also a serpentarium with snakes, turtles, caiman, crocodiles and more.

At Heliconia Lodge you will enjoy the down home feel of the service and attention of this bed and breakfast. Breakfast and lunch are available in the cozy riverside restaurant, providing an excellent place to unwind and take in the sights. Dinner is not prepared in the restaurant, but you can order in. Be sure to ask for the meal times on arrival, as the restaurant is not open all day. Then stroll the magical botanical gardens; a birdwatchers dream come true, and explore the nature trails, swim in the clean Sarapiqui River, and just get lost in all of the natural beauty of this unique area.

Heliconia Lodge has secluded 4 cabins; 2 with air conditioning and 2 with fans, and 1 family apartment.

Cabin: Cabins feature bamboo furniture, fan or air conditioning, and nature observation deck. There are options with 2 single beds, 1 queen bed, 1 queen bed and a bunk bed, or 1 king sized bed, all with quality mattresses and private bathrooms with hot water. Extra beds are available for an additional cost.

Apartment: The Apartment features a living area with bunk beds, a kitchenette with microwave, refrigerator, coffee maker, a separate bedroom with queen bed, fan, and bathroom. There is also a private deck for nature observation.
