Let the pool set the pace at Occidental Tamarindo Resort. A large freeform pool, Jacuzzi and lounge areas give a Langosta stay its center of gravity, while the scenic shoreline and nearby Tamarindo offer a different backdrop when you want to explore. Formerly Barcelo Langosta Resort, the hotel brings together time on the grounds, a buffet-based all-inclusive plan and room choices with outdoor space.

The shoreline and the town

The beach directly in front of the resort is scenic but not swimmer-friendly. Use the resort pool for a dip, or head into Tamarindo for swimming and surfing in suitable areas, a few minutes away by car or about a 20-minute walk. The town’s shops, restaurants and bars bring another rhythm to the vacation, with local beers, tropical drinks and Latino music adding to the evening atmosphere.

Meals with clear choices

Buffet meals at Langosta Main Restaurant, snacks and domestic beverages at the bar are included in the all-inclusive plan. The buffet serves breakfast, lunch and dinner during specified hours. El Oceano offers à la carte dinner as a separate choice: food and drinks are excluded from the plan, reservations are required and often difficult to obtain, and a minimum three-night stay is needed for eligibility. Plan around the included buffet rather than relying on an à la carte reservation.

La Tortuga Lobby Bar opens from 17:00 to midnight, and Las Baulas Snack Bar from 10:00 to 19:00, with times subject to change at the resort’s discretion. Imported and top-shelf drinks cost extra, as does internet. Confirm the internet arrangement for your selected room before booking. Souvenir and jewelry shops make browsing possible on site, and a conference room adds a practical facility for groups.

Choose an active morning or a quieter afternoon

Tennis courts and a fitness center operate during regular hours. Aerobics, beach volleyball, dance classes, archery and darts rotate through the week, as does the entertainment program for children and adults; it is not available every day. A playground gives children another option. For a gentler interval, massages, facials, manicures and pedicures are available at the spa and beauty salon for an additional fee. Kayaking, snorkeling, other water sports and rentals are not included in the all-inclusive plan.

A room with space to linger

Every room has a balcony or terrace, with air conditioning, cable television, a mini-refrigerator, coffee maker, safe, bathrobe and slippers, and hair dryer among the shared comforts. Superior Rooms have 32 square meters with a king bed or two double beds. Duplex Suites extend over two floors with 66 square meters, a hot tub and ocean views; the two-level Master Suite Duplex gives you 99 square meters, a hot tub, and ocean and mangrove views. Choose the room around the space and outlook you want to enjoy between resort activities.

Make a day of the wider region

Outings can take you well beyond the pool. Consider an ATV and canopy combo, Barra Honda cave spelunking, Buena Vista’s multi-activity adventure, Canopy Monkey Jungle, catamaran cruising and snorkeling, or golf at Hacienda Pinilla. Coastal kayaking and snorkeling bring tropical islands and rock or coral formations into view, with dolphins, sea turtles and tropical fish among the possible encounters. Arrange the activities that suit your interests separately, then return for a buffet meal and another interval beside the water.

• Choose the shoreline for scenery: the beach in front is not swimmer-friendly. Tamarindo’s swimming and surfing areas are a few minutes’ drive or about a 20-minute walk away.
• Know the all-inclusive boundary: buffet meals, snacks and domestic bar beverages are included. Imported and top-shelf drinks, internet and water sports or rentals are extra.
• Treat à la carte dining as a separate plan: El Oceano food and drinks are excluded, reservations are required and often difficult to secure, and at least three nights at the resort are needed for eligibility.
• Match the room to how you want to unwind: all have a balcony or terrace; Superior Rooms are 32 square meters with a king bed or two double beds, Duplex Suites are 66 square meters over two floors with a hot tub and ocean views, and the 99-square-meter Master Suite Duplex has a hot tub and ocean and mangrove views.

• Keep meals and evenings close at hand: two restaurants and two bars, plus souvenir and jewelry shops, support time on the grounds. La Tortuga’s 17:00–midnight and Las Baulas’ 10:00–19:00 hours can change at the resort’s discretion.
