It serves as an ideal base for ecotourists seeking an immersive jungle experience.
Set on a narrow peninsula separating the Tortuguero Canals from the Caribbean Sea, Laguna Lodge provides an ecolodge base to explore the wilds of Tortuguero, Costa Rica. Set on six acres of land surrounded by tropical gardens, the lodge offers a natural, relaxing, and peaceful setting for ecotourists. Lodge amenities include a restaurant and bar, swimming pool, conference room, nature trails, and WiFi in some public areas (frequent outages occur in this region).
A visit to Tortuguero is only possible by boat or airplane. Dense jungles and canals surround the area, making it impossible to drive there. The lack of accessibility protects the forest and numerous species of animals that live there. Animals such as monkeys, macaws, sloths, crocodiles, and jaguars live in this remote region. Endangered sea turtles lay their eggs on the beach in front of Tortuguero and right behind the lodge from the end of July through the beginning of October (a registered guide must accompany visitors that wish to see nesting turtles, and this is not included in the rate of the hotel).
Laguna Lodge offers 3-day, 2-night or 2-day, 1-night packages that include round trip transportation from most San Jose area hotels. It is also possible to come from or leave to other destinations, but this must be coordinated well in advance. From San Jose, the drive to the dock takes approximately 4 hours. The boat ride (25-pound weight limit) through the canals to the lodge takes an additional hour or so. When you arrive at the lodge, you will have the opportunity to visit the village, and you will also be required to pay the Tortuguero National Park entrance fee. The price is $17 per adult, $5 for kids ages 5 - 11, free for younger children (prices are subject to change at any time and are not included in the lodge rates). Lunch will be served in the early afternoon and dinner in the evening, both of which are buffet-style.
Both package versions (2 or 1 night) include round trip transfers from San Jose, lodging, and meals. They also include a guided tour to Tortuguero National Park and a visit to the village of Tortuguero. The 2-night package also includes a guided walk through the gardens and trails of the lodge.
The 106 rooms of Laguna Lodge are spread throughout the six-acre property. This is an ecolodge, so of course, the rooms are rustic. The no-frills rooms have a fan, safe deposit box, private bathroom, and a shared terrace. The rooms do NOT have television or air conditioning.
NOTES:
