Overview

Experience the best of both worlds hiking to see the Arenal Volcano near the town of La Fortuna then soaking in naturally fed hot spring at the aptly named The Springs Resort. You will get a good workout on this moderately-paced hike through a Costa Rican rainforest to see an amazing view of the massive Arenal Volcano. Afterward, you can relax in the hot springs surrounded by the beautifully landscaped grounds of this luxury resort!

Your tour will begin when you are picked up from your La Fortuna area hotel and brought to a private nature reserve near the base of the volcano. Your bilingual guide will take you along the Arenal 1968 trail, where you can explore the solidified lava trails of the large 1968 eruption and the rainforest trail Your informative nature guide will share with you a plethora of information about the plant and animal life living in this area as well as point out and identify anything interesting that appears on your walk. Be sure to bring your camera and binoculars!

Throughout the hike you will have an opportunity to see glimpses of the volcano, and on a clear day you can see the detailed contour and textures that make up the picturesque conical top. Eventually you will reach an observation platform where the volcano will appear in full view, allowing a moment of awe inspiring wonder and legendary photographs.

From the look out point you will hike to an old lava flow in which you can see, touch and walk on the lava field. As you look around this barren area you can observe places in the rock formations that have been forcibly cracked open by regenerating plant life. After this moderately-paced hike, your group will return to the entrance of the nature reserve to be driven over to The Springs, one of the most luxurious hot springs providers in the area.

At The Springs you will be dropped off to enjoy bathing in the various spring fed pools followed by a delicious buffet dinner on the premises. You can change into your bathing suit in the provided area then slip into one of the warm relaxing pools to soothe away any tightness in your well exercised muscles.

Situated in prime view of the volcano and with a surrounding mountainous landscape, this hot springs location cannot be beat. Beautifully manicured gardens full of exotic flowers are scattered throughout the property. The natural looking pools and man made waterfalls have been thoughtfully designed and are clearly inspired by the local jungle environment.

When you are ready, you can change back into your clothes then go have a delicious buffet dinner enjoying the view as you dine in a beautiful restaurant. After dinner your driver will come to pick you up at a prearranged time to take you back to your hotel.

Please bring your bathing suit, towel, hiking clothes, running shoes or hiking boots, camera, bug repellent, and sun screen. Round trip transportation from the La Fortuna area, bilingual nature guide, nature reserve admission, hot springs admission and buffet dinner are all included in this approximate 4 to 6 hour combination tour. Hot springs super. The trek we could have done on our own and seen as much.

The guide was very knowledgeable and had a good personality. The desk people and the bar staff at The Springs Hot Springs were not that friendly; it seemed they were not that concerned with helping a "day pass" person. However the servers at dinner were awesome.
