Good to Know

Discover the Costa Rican rainforest from unique perspectives on the Arenal Hanging Bridges and La Fortuna Waterfall Combo Tour. This immersive adventure involves traversing 15 suspended bridges for canopy-level wildlife spotting, followed by a visit to the iconic La Fortuna Waterfall, where guests can admire the cascade or descend for a revitalizing swim. The active tour includes a guide, transportation, lunch, and entrance fees, requiring fully enclosed shoes and adhering to strict conservation policies regarding single-use plastics on trails from August 1, 2025.

Today you will go on an amazing half day of adventure at the Mistico Arenal Hanging Bridges Park. The bridges and trails are located in the rainforest near the majestic Arenal Volcano. All of the 15 bridges vary in height and length and provide an interesting way to observe the rainforest canopy.

Set in the rainforest near Lake Arenal, the Mistico Park is on the fringe of the Arenal Volcano National Park. While the park and surrounding area is better known for the volcano, this is an area that protects many species of wildlife. With a little luck and cooperation from Mother Nature, your bilingual guides will point out wildlife such as armadillo, toucans, deer, raccoon, coatis, sloths, and hopefully a few monkeys. Several wild cat species such as puma, ocelot and margay have been spotted in the park, though sightings of these elusive felines are uncommon.

It is also important to mention that for safety reasons open sandals or shoes are NOT permitted on this tour.

The La Fortuna Waterfall is one of those must see attractions that should be on everybodys list. This towering waterfall is just a few minutes by car outside of La Fortuna and right around the corner from the iconic Arenal Volcano.

After being picked up at an Arenal area hotel, you will be brought to the scenic waterfalls. The drive will take you through a rural community allowing you to see a more traditional side of Costa Rica. As you get closer, the views get better and better. On clear days you can see the majestic Arenal Volcano and the neighboring Cerro Chato Volcano. You will also pass by fields which are often frequented by toucans and other bird species.

The hike back up is physically demanding so be prepared for a challenge! NOTE: This activity is not recommended for children under 5 years old and parents will need to stay with all their children throughout the hike. After the tour you will be returned to your hotel. The total duration of this combo tour is around 7 to 8 hours, but this can vary based on a variety of factors.

Amazing and our guide was terrific!

When you go to a rainforest, especially during green season, expect to get wet! Because we went into it with this expectation, we had a wonderful experience getting drenched at the hanging bridges! Our naturalist guide, Angie, was super knowledgable and did a great job pointing out and explaining the wildlife we saw. We came across toucans, blue jean frogs, spider monkeys, tarantulas, and pit vipers to name a few. We never felt unsafe. The only downsides were that we couldn’t see the Arenal volcano and weren’t able to swim at La Fortuna due to the weather. Even with that, my 18yo son said this was his favorite excursion of the whole trip.
