Biking along the Lake Arenal road is a great way to take in the beauty of one of the most scenic places in Costa Rica. Imagine riding along the back roads through the countryside and jungle.

The day starts off when you are picked up from your Arenal area hotel. A transfer will be provided to the lake where your guide will choose the best route for the day, equip you with a bike and helmet and then provide a brief safety and operational course.

There are a variety of factors that can affect the guides decision on which route to take including weather and traffic, which can both significantly affect this tour. One version of the tour includes a ride through the unpaved backroads near Lake Arenal to El Castillo. The other version is on the paved lake road along the northern side of the lake. Each version is over 13 kilometers and the altitude gain will be between 280 – 800 feet depending on the chosen route. Needless to say, this can be considered strenuous for riders that do not bike often.

The scenery is breathtaking at both locations and you may be able to spot wildlife such as howler monkeys, coatis, toucans or egrets. You will pass by farms, hills and jungle. The volcano can be seen on clear days from various vantage points.

After the tour you will be returned to your La Fortuna hotel. In addition to transportation, you will be provided with a quality bike, helmet, gloves, guide and snack.

Our tour guide, Enyell was pleasant and educational. The ride was good and a little difficult at times. The pineapple served as a snack was delicious! Our driver was good and I felt safe during transfer. They dropped us off at our next stop which was appreciated.

Even though it down-poured the entire ride, we had a lot of fun riding and seeing the different areas we toured. The guide was amazing and was patient with me (who struggled on some hills!!). After a snack break, I decided to stop biking and get in the van to follow my husband, another tour guest and the guide. They all got to race around for the remaining time and had an absolute blast!

The tour was really good - all the guides and the driver were very skilled and the main guide was knowledgeable. Would have been great to bike further and not have to turn back.
