Overview

The Horseback Riding at Rancho Tipico Don Juan tour is an amazing way to discover local Costa Rican traditions and ride horses at the same time! Set on a 300-acre family farm, this tour will lead you on horseback through farmland, forest, and eventually to a beautiful waterfall.

The day starts off when you are picked up from your Manuel Antonio area hotel. The drive will take approximately 30-60 minutes depending on how many other travelers are going and the location of your hotel. After picking everybody up, we’ll drive to the Rancho Tipico Don Juan Farm.

When you arrive at the farm, you will be greeted by your guides and fitted with a helmet. Then you will be matched up with one of their well-trained horses. Your guide will then lead you on a trail through the family farm passing by cows and beautiful scenery. You will also pass through the forest and eventually, you’ll visit a beautiful waterfall, where you will have time to relax and enjoy the peaceful scenery. While this is not exactly a nature tour, guests often see monkeys, dart frogs, iguanas, butterflies, and beautiful birds.

After some time at the waterfall, you will ride back to the rancho where you will be provided with water, ice tea, and a refreshing towel. Shortly after, a typical Costa Rican lunch will be provided.

After you eat, a transfer will be provided back to your hotel. The transportation time will be approximately 30-60 minutes depending on where your hotel is located and how many people there are. In total, including transportation, this tour usually lasts approximately 5 hours but this can vary based on the group size. This tour includes transportation from Manuel Antonio, fruit, two bottles of waters, one ice tea, refreshing towels, and a traditional Costa Rican lunch. The minimum age is 4 years old.

The guide grew up on the farm and had so much historical knowledge. Very easy riding.

Randall (our guide) was both personable, and professional. My wife and I were the only two people on the tour, and just as before, it became a very personalized experience. We learned so much of the history of the area and the effort Costa Rica makes in ensuring that their ecosystem/nature is preserved for future generations. This was a great way to finish up our visit to this beautiful country!
