Overview

National Geographic, Animal Planet and the BBC are just some of the places photographs have been used that were taken at this rescued reptile sanctuary. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to photograph reptiles, frogs, and other native wildlife living in a natural or simulated natural habitat setting. World class setups designed by professional photographers are available for your use with the help of a biologist who will assist with handling the animals.

Your tour will begin when you are picked up from your hotel and driven to the Snake Garden. Upon arrival, you will meet with the resident biologist who has experience handling reptiles and setting them up for professional photographs.

There are more than 40 different snake species in the Snake Garden plus many other species of reptiles like turtles, caimans, crocodiles and frogs. They are all housed in a natural or simulated natural environment surrounded by secure cages or glass tanks. Each reptile living in the Garden was given or loaned by the government after being rescued from people who were raising them illegally. This is a unique chance to observe reptiles and snakes closely as they are difficult to see living wild in the rainforest.

The biologist in the Snake Garden is extremely knowledgeable and experienced in caring for reptiles. He will provide up to 15 safe reptiles for a selected viewing so that you can take close-ups from many angles. You will also be assisted with the use of professional set-up equipment.

Some of the snakes and other reptiles commonly photographed are eyelash pit vipers, boa constrictors, pythons, red-eyed tree frogs, poison dart frogs and common basilisks (Jesus Christ lizards). Photographers from around the world have snapped professional shots here which have been used by National Geographic, Animal Planet, and the BBC!

Snake Garden in Sarapiqui is a family run business dedicated to educating the public about the different reptiles native to Costa Rica. It allows visitors to see these reptiles up-close and in a safe and responsible way.

Throughout the day you will be offered snacks and beverages, and half way through the tour a delicious typical Costa Rican lunch will be provided. After your day long photographic expedition, you will be driven back to your hotel.

This tour includes admission, a bilingual naturalist guide who will assist with photographs of up to 15 animals, use of professional set up equipment, snack, lunch, and transportation from Sarapiqui.
