Northern Zone Weather
Learn about the weather of Costa Rica’s Northern Zone including La Fortuna, Monteverde, Nuevo Arenal, Rio Celeste, Sarapiqui and Santa Elena.
The weather of the Northern Zone of Costa Rica is more inconsistent than anywhere else in the country as the region spans both sides of the Talamanca Mountain range. Sarapiqui is located on the eastern side and experiences weather patterns similar to the Caribbean. Both La Fortuna and Rio Celeste are also located on the eastern side, though the Pacific weather patterns certainly have an effect on these areas as they are located on the edge of the mountains. Monteverde is located within the mountains at a high elevation and experiences weather patterns from both sides, though more so from the Pacific. La Fortuna Weather
Visitors to La Fortuna and the Arenal Volcano region can expect a warm, tropical climate with a dry season in the winter months. Closer to the shores of Lake Arenal, windy conditions are typical thanks to what locals call the Lake Effect.
