You’ll be greeted when you land at Liberia International Airport and driven over to your hotel at Playa Panama on the Pacific coast only 30 minutes away. After checking in, you can take a walk along the beach, swim, have a tropical drink, or just relax on your patio taking in the gorgeous views. Your first full day gives you time to unwind and discover your amazing surroundings. In the morning, you might get a surprise wake up call from a family of howler monkeys playing outside in the trees! Don’t worry, you can make coffee right in your room before getting dressed and heading over to the restaurant for the tempting breakfast buffet. Afterward, you might like to take a barefoot stroll along the unique volcanic sand beach and go for a swim.
Until recent years, it was difficult to reach Playa Panama by car, resulting in the one mile stretch of beach in front of the hotel remaining mostly undeveloped. Within the town, a number of upscale homes and high-rises abound, including a nearby golf course. Along the quiet shoreline, a few boats offering fishing or snorkeling trips can be found, or you might like to pull a lounge chair from the pool area over to lie at the beach. With meals included at all three onsite restaurants, you’ll have plenty of menu options to feast on freshly prepared delectable dishes. Cool off in a regular or saltwater pool and swim up to the bar for a specialty tropical fruit drink. As evening falls, you may want to leisurely soak in the Jacuzzi.
The next day you’ll be driven inland to Palo Verde National Park for a guided riverboat nature tour. The rare tropical dry forest along the Tempisque River attracts one of the highest concentrations of migratory waterfowl found in Central America. Resident birdlife, such as the scarlet macaw and roseate spoonbill, also nest within this remote area of lowland floodplains. You’ll likely see a lot of crocodiles in the river while your guide points out other visible wildlife on the day of your visit including interesting insects, mammals, reptiles and amphibians. Be sure to pack a pair of binoculars to really get up close and personal!
You’ll enjoy another free day to relax at the beach. You might like to visit the nearby beaches of Playa Hermosa and Playa Coco. Or you could stay at the hotel and splurge on an added spa service before gearing up for tomorrow’s exciting zipline adventure. Perfect for families and first timers, the friendly professional zipline guides will have you up and flying through the trees in no time. After an uphill hike, you’ll reach the first platform where you’ll be hooked onto your first zipline. From there you’ll zip over 11 steel cables, soaring over the most amazing scenery. Before leaving, you can visit the rescued animals living in the wildlife refuge. Then one more day is yours to explore the beautiful Guanacaste shoreline on your own before packing up all your newly created memories and heading home.

A beautiful mile long beach set just inside Culebra Bay on the Pacific Northwest side of Costa Rica, Playa Panama promises a sense of well-being and serenity along its undeveloped shoreline. The pristine beach, awarded the prestigious international Blue Flag certification for cleanliness and safety, has no submerged rocks and only calm steady waves, perfect for snorkeling and swimming. The volcanic beach is shaded by dry tropical forest trees, now considered endangered worldwide, with only a few fishing and snorkeling boat vendors found along the public waterfront. Fishing and snorkeling are very good here. Only recently have the roads been improved enough for easy access to this remote area, bringing a flurry of rapid upscale development to the community while leaving the coastline relatively untouched. Often referred to as the “Golden Coast”, you’ll find this part of the Guanacaste seashore less inhabited. Nearby, the beaches of Playa Hermosa and Playa Coco can also be explored.
