Los Lagos Hotel Resort and Spa

Arenal

Good to Know

Los Lagos Hotel Resort and Spa in Arenal offers a vibrant, family-friendly escape amidst a tropical landscape. This midrange resort features natural hot springs, a large swimming pool with an exciting waterslide, and dining with captivating jungle and volcano views. Guests can balance on-site relaxation with exploring the Arenal Volcano region's diverse activities, making it an ideal choice for a memorable Costa Rican vacation.

Hot springs and pool days in Arenal’s tropical landscape

Arenal Volcano, tropical grounds and a pool with a big waterslide give Los Lagos Hotel Resort and Spa a lively sense of vacation. In La Fortuna, this midrange resort lets you balance exploring with days that need no ambitious schedule: spend time in the hot springs, take a swim and leave an afternoon for the grounds or spa.

Poolside afternoons, meals with a jungle outlook

Las Palmas Restaurant serves Costa Rican and international dishes for breakfast, lunch and dinner with jungle views. Birds often visit the area in front of the restaurant, giving you another reason to pause over a meal. Dress is casual, though swimwear and wet clothing are not permitted. Change after the pool before coming to dine.

Lemnos Wet Bar brings drinks to the poolside setting, with a swim-up bar and views of Arenal. Its menu includes more than 50 tropical drinks and cocktails, along with natural drinks, sodas, beer and wine. Between the pool, waterslide and hot springs, there is plenty to make a day at the resort feel like part of the trip rather than a gap between excursions.

Choose your position on the grounds

Most Standard Rooms are near the pool and central facilities. Superior Rooms, Premium Rooms and Villas sit on a hill above the common areas, so getting to the pool, hot springs, restaurant and lobby involves a short hike. A complimentary shuttle is available for guests without a rental car. Think about that difference when choosing between proximity to the facilities and the room styles higher on the property.

Air conditioning, cable television and a mini-fridge provide familiar comforts across the rooms and villas. The Villa category adds a kitchen and living room for meals and downtime together. Beyond the hotel, the Arenal Volcano National Park region has ATV trips, waterfalls, canopy ziplines and other ways to explore. Browse Arenal Activities and Tours page to choose outings that suit your party, then keep an afternoon free for Los Lagos’ own water-filled pleasures.

Los Lagos highlights, with the hill and dining rules in mind

  • A tropical hot-springs setting. In front of Arenal Volcano, this midrange resort places tropical grounds and hot springs at the center of the stay. It is an appealing family choice when you want the hotel’s setting and facilities to be part of the vacation.
  • A day in the water. The swimming pool’s large waterslide adds an energetic side to the stay, while thermal soaking and the spa invite a slower pace. Families can make time at the resort an activity in its own right instead of filling every day with off-site tours.
  • Dining with a jungle outlook. Las Palmas serves Costa Rican and international breakfast, lunch and dinner; birds frequently visit the area in front. The casual dress code still excludes swimwear and wet clothing, so plan to change between the pool and a restaurant meal.
  • A drink with Arenal in view. Lemnos Wet Bar has a swim-up bar, volcano views and more than 50 tropical drinks and cocktails, plus natural beverages, sodas, beer and wine. It gives poolside downtime its own character alongside the resort’s hot springs.
  • Choose the room’s location as well as its size. Most Standard Rooms are close to the pool and central facilities. Superior Rooms, Premium Rooms and Villas are uphill, requiring a short hike to the pool, hot springs, restaurants and lobby; weigh that daily movement when choosing your accommodation.
  • Help with the hill. Guests without a rental car have a complimentary shuttle service. All room styles and villas have air conditioning, cable TV and a mini-fridge; the Villa adds a kitchen and living room for a group that values meals and downtime together.
  • Keep room for the wider region. ATV trips near Arenal, waterfalls and treetop ziplines are regional choices to plan around the stay. Browse the Arenal Activities and Tours page for details and rates, then leave enough time to enjoy the resort itself.

I think that it would be lovely to have adult only pools and black out curtains in the room - everything else was spectacular!!!!

Great hotel ... everything went well .Shower was a bit of a problem but things went pretty well . Loved the pools

Mary U.

Property was very hilly, had to wait for shuttle, to get around. dining room was good and played nice music.

Laura L.

The best part about this hotel are the dozens of swimming pools of all different temperatures. Most have slides and one even has a swim-up bar. One evening we got to soak in the hot pool while listening to live music. The location was also amazing right at the base of the volcano. We recommend the steep hike up to the Mirador for a great view.

Kolleen M.

Loved the patio area each room had. Thought the shuttle system might be a hassle but it was so frequent, it was actually never a problem or inconvenient

Jon H.

LOVED Las Lagos, and LOVED Gustavo, bartender and musician. Too bad the adjoining property let their dogs bark all night.

Rosemarie G.

Beautiful location, great view of the volcano. Breakfasts were very good. Distance to main entrance and restaurant was not only far but difficult climb.

Tamar K.

The hotel was good but there was no WIFI in the room. We had a standard room which do not provide a kettle in such "cheap" room of 200$ per night. I would expect to have this minimal item - notably, in every hotel with much lower prices this item is provided.

Little dated in need of some repairs

Dorryl H.

The grounds were absolutly beautiful!

Barbara P.

Resort was beautiful, pools were dirty, rooms were spacious and clean BUT there was no place to relax, no chaora, no table amd xhairs, just two beds and a big empty space. Weird.

Kari O.

This hotel exceeded all expectations. Room had amazing view. Breakfast buffet was awesome. Pos and bar food were great

Jasmine S.

The hotel was very clean and well kept. The staff was always friendly.

Los Lagos was beyond our expectations. Fabulous!

This hotel more then met our expectations! It was amazing! I would reccomend to stay here to anyone! It was beyond beautiful and the pools were so great! Everything here was perfect!

Natalie N.

very nice hotel and friendly staff

Robert H.

The room could have had more amenities such as microwave (which Cala Lodge had). The lobby staff was good but not great, again, like Cala Lodge. Also, most importantly, it was quite far from La Fortuna. It was not close enough to walk there which we would have liked for dining. At Cala Lodge, we could walk to the "city" center (about a 20 min walk) whereas La Fortuna as probably an hour walk away on the road, no paths or sidewalks. That is the biggest negative.

Furnishings in room were in the sparse side. The room was big enough for a couch or a couple chairs

Christel K.

A wonderful family hotel! The resort is beautifully landscaped, we enjoyed the many plants and regularly checked on ‘our’ butterflies, ants, frogs and the crocodile. The best thing are the pools. Some are with refreshingly cool water, some are hot, so there is no end to swimming. There are several water slides on top of the pools for relaxing, some of which even end in hot water. The kids had so much fun! There are a lot of activities on offer directly from the hotel and the zip lining even starts on site. It was a great experience. The entire resort is made from something that looks like fake logs, so it has a bit of a ‘dinoland’ feel to it. It’s a few miles away from La Fortuna and you can’t really get there without a car, so your meal choices are limited to the hotel if you don’t have your own transportation. When the clouds lift, the volcano is in full sight in all its glory!

Rachel S.

The hotel concierge was disappointing, they recommended and sold us a tour to the volcano that certainly wasn’t worth the amount we paid which was $240 for the four of us. The woman at the front desk was not honest about her recommendation.

Kyle L.

Food was fine, not great. Room was awesome, hot springs great.

Karla F.

The Villa was beautiful and very comfortable. Just a little short on cleaning supplies and kitchen towels and dishcloths.
