Very nice place, some areas of the hotel are a little tired and in need of refurbishment but overall a nice place. The restaurant was very good. There was one day we didn't get maid service but in the main all was good
Find your place to stay
Hotel Cariblue Beach and Jungle Resort offers a unique blend of coastal access and rainforest immersion in Puerto Viejo. Situated directly across from Playa Cocles, guests can enjoy beach days before returning to the hotel's large pool, Jacuzzi, and tropical gardens. With diverse accommodations ranging from rustic bungalows to multi-bedroom jungle houses, plus Caribbean-fusion dining at SoleLuna Restaurant, it provides a serene base for exploring local surf spots and abundant wildlife.
Cross the street for Playa Cocles, then return to rainforest trees and a pool at Hotel Cariblue Beach and Jungle Resort. That close relationship between coast and greenery gives this midrange Puerto Viejo lodge its appeal. The accommodation ranges from rustic bungalows to hotel-style rooms, so you can choose the atmosphere and space that suit your stay.
The large pool sits at the heart of the grounds, with lounge chairs providing a natural place to pause after a beach outing. Aqua Caribbean Spa offers treatments and massages when you want to devote a little more time to unwinding. The Jacuzzi and tropical gardens add other reasons to enjoy the hotel between adventures.
SoleLuna Restaurant occupies an open-air rancho near the pool and serves a fusion of Caribbean cuisine. Totem Beach Bar sits within the restaurant, bringing tropical drinks into the same relaxed setting. A meal here can be an inviting way to finish a day along the coast.
Playa Cocles offers surfing, including daily lessons at the north end. For wildlife outings, Cahuita National Park and Gandoca-Manzanillo Wildlife Refuge bring trails, beaches and opportunities to look for monkeys, sloths and birds. Snorkeling is possible in the drier seasons; conditions help determine what is suitable on the day.
The nearby reserves hold more than the coast’s most familiar mammals. Along with monkeys and sloths, you may look for toucans, iguanas, frogs and colorful pit vipers as you explore Cahuita or Gandoca-Manzanillo. Cahuita is an appealing place to begin when wildlife is high on your list. For another coastal experience, Salsa Brava in Puerto Viejo draws surfers to its larger waves. Choose the outing that interests you, then return to the pool and gardens for the quieter part of the day.
Compare the room styles before booking. The Jungle House provides multiple bedrooms, while some hotel rooms sit in a building at the front of the property. Bring your own pool and beach towels, as the hotel does not provide them. Wi-Fi is available in some common areas. With those practical details planned, there is plenty of room for a simple Caribbean rhythm: beach, pool and dinner beneath the rancho.

The room was kept very clean and the location is gorgeous. Easy walk to the beach and the resort pool is PERFECT! Howler monkeys, acouti, sloths, butterflies... fantastic! Resort restaurant breakfast buffet is outstanding! Dinner prices are a bit high - but it is easy to get to other local eateries by foot or by renting a bike. The staff is very friendly, patient and helpful. I wish they had at least a mini-fridge to keep cold drinks on hand - but I'd go back in a heartbeat!

hot tub and small restaurant, as well as the back gate, were closed for the season. We love this place! Staff was helpful and expressed interest in our lives.

The hotel staff weren't particularly friendly (based on our other experiences in Costa Rica, except for the lady in reception in the mornings who was very good). Our room was great, but the other hotel facilities are getting/looking a bit dated vs the price level.

Our room was great very large and comfortable, but the rest on the lodge, pool area seemed a bit disappointing given the cost.

the manager was oblivious to what it means to provide for the guests, he seemed to forget having guests is a privilege that requires expectations to be met

Great jungle and beach setting. Would return in high season when more services were available.

Need better pillows, otherwise very comfortable. Very charming and peaceful place.

Hotel Cariblue was pretty disappointing. We knew it was a lower-end hotel, but the staff was not nearly as personable and much of the hotel looked deserted/slightly rundown. The room was fine, but the pool area was dirty and not maintained (the pool bar was never open, but there were a bunch of empty beer bottles sitting there for several days). The complimentary breakfasts were not very good, either. In hindsight, I wish we had stayed at a less "luxurious" place in town.

Awesome Place!!! Loved it!!
It was very good, I am glad we stayed here.
Excellent staff and experience
Want to especially call out Oscar - the bartender - for his good service and friendliness.
Expectations were exceeded. Loved having our own cabin. Do wish the windows were screened, so we could have opened them without letting mosquitoes inside. Proximity to town was nice. Proximity to ocean was great! Loved the pool and pool bar as well.
We really enjoyed this hotel and its welcoming and forthcoming staff.
