After 40 years of constant activity, the lava stopped flowing at Arenal Volcano in October of 2010. The volcano is still considered active and can erupt at any time. There are plenty of signs of life such as hot springs at the base of the volcano and steam which is often observed coming out of the crater. The volcano still provides an iconic backdrop for some of country’s best adventure activities, making it one of the most visited attractions in Costa Rica.
