Exploring the Braulio Carrillo National Park by aerial tram is the way to go. Sitting in an open air gondola, you’ll glide over two levels of rainforest at a leisurely 2 kilometers per hour. This very popular guided tour gives you an unprecedented vantage point for seeing into the forest without disturbing the wildlife within.
Your day will begin when all participants meet in the main office at the National Park. Your guide will be waiting for you, and after introductions will lead you to the beginning of the Aeriel Tram ride. You’ll hop on board and start gliding just a few feet from the forest floor. This gives you a chance to take a good look at the understory of the forest, and see any creatures that may be lurking there.
At a certain point the tram climbs up a mountain range, slowly opening up the view of the tree canopy itself and beyond. The tram will reach heights of about 170 feet, allowing you to take some epic photos of the beautiful view and perhaps birds as well who may be flying at eye level.
You will be well connected to the guides in other tram vehicles by way of walkie-talkie, so they spread the word when one sees a sloth or a family of monkeys. This enhances everyone’s ability to see as much wildlife as possible throughout the trip.
Your guide is a trained and educated nature guide who knows where to look to find wildlife and can tell you interesting facts about Costa Rican flora, fauna and natural history. Depending on weather, season, and other factors you may get to see a variety of wildlife during your trip including sloths, monkeys, reptiles and a variety of birds including owls and Toucans.
Braulio Carrillo National Park encompasses 117,300 acres of land that sits in the Central Valley of Costa Rica. Within the park are a number of different habitats such as cloud forest and regenerating rainforest, both lowlands and uplands. Paved walking trails wind throughout the park at different elevations as well. Streams, rivers, waterfalls, and dense rainforest foliage are all scattered within the park providing a variety of things to see.
After your aerial Tram ride through the Park, your guide will drop you off at the main office, where you can head home in your respective vehicles or choose to do another activity at an additional cost.
This tour includes a bilingual guide and park activity fee, transportation and lunch. Please keep in mind that traffic in the San Jose area is unpredictable so plan to leave your hotel well in advance from the start time of the tour.
The park tour takes about 1.5 hours to complete. Please wear enclosed shoes, insect repellent, and bring your camera and binoculars to fully appreciate the experience.
