Scuba Diving at the Mysterious Cano Island

On today’s full day, two tank Scuba dive tour you will venture offshore to one of the largest, most diverse coral reefs in Costa Rica. The included transportation varies in time from 15 minutes to a little over an hour based upon whether you are picked up locally in Uvita or further up in the towns of Dominical and Manuel Antonio.

Cano Island is a protected area located approximately 15 kilometers off the Pacific coast. In addition to the coral reef, many artifacts remain from the sacred burial grounds of the Pre-Columbian indigenous people.

From Uvita you will be driven down to the roomy, covered dive boat that will take you through the mangroves and out to the Cano Island Biological Reserve. During the trip from Uvita to the island, which takes about an hour and 15 minutes, refreshments will be provided. When you reach your destination your certified bilingual dive instructor will assist you with your dive equipment and go over the safety instructions.

Your first of two 40 minute dives will be with your instructor guiding you along volcanic formations hosting both hard and soft coral environments in depths up to 15 meters. In addition to the small colorful tropical fish such as: damselfish, tangs, parrot fish, sea cucumbers and moray eels, this area is home to schools of Snapper, Jacks, white tip sharks, manta rays and sea turtles. Visibility often exceeds 80 feet.

Your second 40 minute dive will give you free time to explore with your dive instructor close by. A delicious hot lunch will be served while you take time to relax. Then you’ll be returning to shore, possibly chased by dolphins!
