Overview

A hike to the Las Chorreras Waterfalls from Hacienda Guachipelin is one of the best ways you can immerse yourself in the abundant beauty of Costa Rica. Following the moderate hike through the tropical dry forest, you’ll have a chance to go for a refreshing swim in the cool waters of a natural pool created by two waterfalls cascading over the rock face of a surrounding canyon.

Hacienda Guachipelin Lodge is an award winning eco-adventure hotel with lush gardens, native trees and exotic flowers scattered throughout the property. It is also a working ranch with 3,400 acres of expansive savannas and tropical dry forest offering an endless amount of activities for both nature enthusiasts and adventurous folk alike. From here visitors can explore its many unique treasures such as waterfalls, geysers and hot springs within the property and witness a panoramic view of the neighboring Rincon de la Vieja Volcano.

Your guide will meet you at the reception area of the Lodge, a beautiful century old building, and then you will embark on a 30 minute hike through the property, granting you an opportunity to see the wild flora and fauna that resides in the area. Your local guide will point out any wildlife found along the way. This area is home to over 300 species of birds and other creatures such as sloths, iguanas and three species of monkeys. Listen to the pervasive sounds coming from the forest canopy to get a clue of what may be hidden around you.

Once you reach the Las Chorreras Waterfalls it will probably seem like paradise has been found. On a sunny day, the pure crystalline waters from the two cascading waterfalls turn the pool below a vibrant turquoise color. The waterfalls are surrounded by a beautiful half circle rock face, creating a canyon-like ridge. There are plenty of places to sit and enjoy the gentle roar of the falls or go for a swim in the natural grotto. Be sure to bring your bathing suit or wear it under your clothes so you can swim and play beneath the waterfalls.

After a relaxing time spent at the waterfall, you’ll hike back and get another opportunity to surround yourself in the tropical sounds of the forest where you may see some wildlife with the help of your guide.

On this approximate 2 hour nature hike, please bring along your bathing suit, towel, sunscreen and bottled water. Wear hiking boots or running shoes and lightweight clothing. Transportation is not included from hotels other than from Hacienda Guachipelin.
