Here you can sauna, soak, and paint your partner with mud. Tour is available to those 8 years old and up with moderate athletic ability. It is not recommended for people with back problems or pregnant women. Certain activities have weight restrictions for persons weighing over 200 pounds. Today you will go from Hacienda Guachipelin on an interesting 45 minute guided hike through savannahs, hills and tropical forest to reach the entrance to Rincon de la Vieja National Park. From there you will go on the Park’s Las Pailas trail for 2.5 miles looping through a tropical forest to where you can observe live volcanic activity including: fumaroles, hot springs, boiling mud pits and geysers. This half day tour includes a local guide and transportation from Hacienda Guachepelin Lodge. Park entrance fee (typically $15 USD + 13%IVA) and transportation from other hotels are NOT included. Note: Rincon de la Vieja National Park is closed on Mondays.

This tour starts at the Hacienda Guachipelin Lodge where you will go horseback riding to the beautiful Oropendola waterfall. Here you can dismount, stretch your legs and go for a swim! Riding horses as a means of transportation is still a tradition in Costa Rica’s more rural areas. Hacienda Guachipelin is a working ranch and one of their ranch hands will be your guide. You will ride in open areas and tropical forest like a true “compesino” (farmer) for about 45 minutes until you reach the waterfall. Then you can hike down into the canyon and a short way in the river to access the swimming area at the bottom of the waterfall. Or you can rest at the top of the canyon and enjoy the beautiful scenery before heading back to the stables.
