Offering the best of Costa Rica's exciting outdoor activities, the Hacienda Guachipelin ADVENTURE DAY PASS provides a combination of ziplining on 7 cables with 12 platforms, a Tarzan swing, rappelling, rock climbing a 65 foot wall, tubing down the beautiful Rio Negro, lunch, a horseback ride, and to top it all off, time to soak those tired muscles in relaxing hot volcanic spring waters with natural mud baths! Here you can sauna, soak, and paint your partner with mud. Tour is available to those 8 years old and up with moderate athletic ability. It is not recommended for people with back problems or pregnant women. Certain activities have weight restrictions for persons weighing over 200 pounds. Rare weather conditions may cause some activities to close temporarily. NOTE: Transportation from other hotels is NOT included.

Las Pailas Hike at Rincon de la Vieja - Hacienda Guachipelin

Today you will go from Hacienda Guachipelin on an interesting 45 minute guided hike through savannahs, hills and tropical forest to reach the entrance to Rincon de la Vieja National Park. From there you will go on the Park’s Las Pailas trail for 2.5 miles looping through a tropical forest to where you can observe live volcanic activity including: fumaroles, hot springs, boiling mud pits and geysers. This half day tour includes a local guide and transportation from Hacienda Guachepelin Lodge. Park entrance fee (typically $15 USD + 13%IVA) and transportation from other hotels are NOT included. Note: Rincon de la Vieja National Park is closed on Mondays.

Canyon Canopy Zipline at Hacienda Guachipelin

You will begin the Canyon Canopy Zipline Tour at Hotel Hacienda Guachipelin and Adventure Center in Rincon de la Vieja. This epic course in a beautiful tropical forest takes you over a scenic river canyon and includes 7 ziplines, a Tarzan swing, a 65 foot rappel, a natural rock climbing wall, and hanging bridges. This fun filled approximate 2.5 hour adventure includes admission, safety equipment and bilingual guides.

Waterfall Tour on Horseback

Today you will be going by horseback, riding through mountainous rainforest, and crossing jungle rivers as you head to Mystery Waterfall. Along the way you’ll ride out on a prairie for stunning views of the Pacific Ocean and check out any available wildlife you may encounter. When you get to the waterfall you’ll have the opportunity to go for a refreshing swim. This Waterfall Tour on Horseback takes a total of 2.5 to 3 hours and begins at the Borinquen Mountain Resort. Tour includes trail guide, horses and helmets. There is NO TRANSPORTATION included in this tour. Please wear long pants and fully enclosed shoes for horseback riding. If you want to swim, you can wear your suit under your clothes. In addition, you’ll likely need bug repellent, sunscreen, and your camera to capture amazing photos.

Borinquen Adventure Day

Today you will go on a fabulous horseback and zip line canopy adventure at the Borinquen Resort followed by a visit to the hot springs and mud bath. Nestled high up in the mountains and surrounded by jungle, the resort provides an unparalleled horseback ride through the tropical forest and up into the mountains where you will see expansive views of the Guanacaste Pacific coast and the Rincon de la Vieja Volcano. After the horseback ride you will go zip lining through the tree canopy soaring across mountain tops and canyons catching breathtaking views of the Borinquen Waterfall! A delicious lunch will be waiting for you before you finish your inland journey relaxing in the natural hot spring pools and mud baths. This full day tour includes transportation, guide, lunch, and drinks. Note that one way driving times to and from beach areas can be up to 3 hours depending on the location of your lodging.

Horseback Ride to La Oropendola Waterfall

This tour starts at the Hacienda Guachipelin Lodge where you will go horseback riding to the beautiful Oropendola waterfall. Here you can dismount, stretch your legs and go for a swim! Riding horses as a means of transportation is still a tradition in Costa Rica’s more rural areas. Hacienda Guachipelin is a working ranch and one of their ranch hands will be your guide. You will ride in open areas and tropical forest like a true “compesino” (farmer) for about 45 minutes until you reach the waterfall. Then you can hike down into the canyon and a short way in the river to access the swimming area at the bottom of the waterfall. Or you can rest at the top of the canyon and enjoy the beautiful scenery before heading back to the stables. This tour takes around 2.5 hours and includes guide and transportation from Hacienda Guachipelin. Transportation is not included from hotels other than from Hacienda Guachipelin.

The Rio Negro is a class I and II river surrounded by a beautiful canyon. The tour starts off at Hacienda Guachipelin Lodge with a horseback or bus ride to the river. After a brief safety course, you will start off near a waterfall, sitting in a specialized inflatable tube and then chute your way through the canyon with a team of guides. This is a great adventure with no experience necessary but all participants must know how to swim. Please inform us if you weigh over 200 pounds as restrictions may apply. This 2.5 to 3 hour tour includes guides, horse back or bus ride from Hacienda Gualchipelin to the river, tube and safety helmet.

Hike to Las Chorreras Waterfall

A guided hike to the Las Chorreras Waterfalls is one of the best ways for you to enjoy immersing yourself in the natural beauty of Costa Rica. After about a 30 minute walk through a tropical forest you will hear the gentle roar of two cascading waterfalls. At the bottom of the twin falls is a crystal clear pool nestled within the surrounding canyon where you can rest and swim in the cool waters. This approximate 2 hour nature hike includes a local guide but does NOT include transportation from hotels other than from Hacienda Gualchipelin.

High on a platform above a cascading waterfall, you’ll lower yourself through the rushing waters until you land in the refreshing pool below. But that’s not all! You’ll repeat this one then go on to another higher rappelling experience before finishing off with an exciting Tarzan Swing through the jungle. The tour begins at Hotel Hacienda Guachipelin where you’ll meet with the guides who will provide all safety equipment and instructions. Then you’ll hike out into the rainforest to discover powers you never knew you had! This 1.5 to 2 hour stimulating personal challenge tour includes professional, bilingual guides and all safety equipment. Transportation to the hotel is NOT provided. You’ll need to wear enclosed tennis or water shoes, and a bathing suit under clothes that can get wet. Please bring insect repellent, sunscreen, camera, and a dry change of clothes for after the tour. Children ages 10 years old and up are welcome to participate in this tour.

Today you will go for a fascinating leisurely nature walk through the rainforest surrounding Borinquen Mountain Resort. Your nature guide will share with you a wealth of information about the area and point out all kinds of wildlife that you might encounter on the day of your visit such as monkeys, Toucans, wild orchids, and other flora and fauna found living in this forest. The 3 hours rainforest walking tour includes a bilingual nature guide and entrance to the private reserve. There is NO TRANSPORTATION provided from other hotels. Please wear enclosed walking shoes and be sure to bring your camera and binoculars as well as insect repellent.
