A trip to the Symbiosis mud bath and hot springs will let you play at body painting before slipping into the rich, mineral hot springs surrounded by natural forest for a relaxing soak. Located near the Rincon de la Vieja Volcano, where the volcanic activity creates bubbling mud, geysers, and hot thermal waters, Symbiosis invites you to a totally natural outdoor experience exfoliating and rejuvenating yourself in yet another one of Costa Rica's magical vacation destinations.

You'll begin this tour at the Hacienda Guachipelin, a working ranch less than an hour's drive from the Liberia International Airport in Guanacaste Province. When you arrive at the ranch, you'll be taken by their bus to the Symbiosis Volcanic Mud Springs and Spa near the Colorado River. At the Spa's reception area, you can choose to purchase one of their many drink options including fresh fruit juices, umbrella drinks, beer, and sodas. You'll also find changing rooms and bathrooms in the reception area.

First, you will visit one of the traditionally built wooden sauna rooms for about 10 minutes. This will allow the pores of your skin to open up so that it will absorb all the minerals of the mud bath. Then you will go to an outdoor wooden gazebo where a huge pot of mud awaits. Here you will find an assortment of paint brushes to use to cover yourself and each other with rich, organic, naturally occurring mineral infused volcanic mud. It's fun! The mud will dry quickly and after it is completely dry, you'll rinse it off in outdoor showers, feeling the tingly afterglow on your skin.

While following the easy footpaths through the forest, you will pass by a geyser shooting upward created by the neighboring Rincon de la Vieja Volcano. When you reach the natural hot springs fed pools, you can spend time soaking in all the amazing tropical surroundings, listening to wildlife, and enjoying the natural beauty of Costa Rica. The whole experience lasts around 2 hours including the short bus ride back to Hacienda Guachipelin.

Note: This tour does not include the additional massage and body treatments available for purchase at the Symbiosis Spa.
