Overview

Saddle up and venture out into the surrounding scenic mountains as you and your horse head to the awe-inspiring Mystery Waterfall for a refreshing swim. What better way is there to explore the rugged Guanacaste countryside than like the local cowboys who ride horses here as a way of life.

This horseback riding tour will begin at Borinquen Mountain Resort where you will meet up with your trail guide. You’ll walk over to the stables and be matched with a well-mannered horse according to your ability and experience level. Your guide will provide high-quality helmets and safety instructions then help you into your saddle and away you’ll go.

While riding along you might get lucky and see a family of monkeys, or one of the many varieties of tropical birds like the iconic Toucan. Your guide will be quick to point out any wildlife visible on the day of your visit.

Located on the property are two breathtaking waterfalls, one of which you’ll see in the distance, and the other you’ll be able to explore up close. Upon arrival to the spectacular 150-foot cascading Mystery Waterfall, your group will dismount and leave the horses to graze in a safe spot. On foot, you’ll be making your decent to the bottom of the waterfall where a cool clear pool awaits.

Be sure to wear your suit under your riding clothes so you can enjoy a dip in the refreshing waters. There is nothing better than going for a swim in the middle of a pristine rainforest under a beautiful waterfall. If you decide not to swim, you can spend your time sitting on the bank or wandering around admiring the scenery. This is a great place to take some epic photographs of life in the jungle.

When your group is done swimming, you’ll greet your horses once again, get back in the saddle and return through the forest to the stables. On the way, you’ll go past a view of Hidden Waterfall as well as catch a stunning view of the Pacific Ocean.

This Waterfall Tour on Horseback includes trail guide, horses, and helmet. Total time of tour is typically between 2 to 3 hours and starts at the Borinquen Mountain Resort. There is NO TRANSPORTATION included in the tour.

Please wear long pants and fully enclosed shoes for horseback riding. If you would like to swim, you can wear your suit under your clothes. In addition, you’ll likely need bug repellent, sunscreen, and your camera to capture amazing photos.
