Hop on board this well-reviewed combo tour and experience ocean exploring at its finest. The Combo Tour- Snorkeling, Caves and Whale Watching tour is a nature enthusiast’s dream and an animal lover’s paradise. You’ll travel as a group to visit a number of different areas in search of humpback whales, bottle nosed dolphins and schools of colorful tropical fish. You will also have an opportunity to snorkel in two famous spots, one of which is a natural underwater cave.

There is nothing more amazing than watching a 40 ton Humpback whale show off its beauty with a jump in the air followed by a massive tail splash. This is what thousands of people have been witnessing in the Osa Peninsula area for many years. In fact, this area is considered to be one of the best places for whale and dolphin watching in the world. On this combo tour, depending on the season you’ll be in search of Humpback whales, Bottle Nosed dolphins, Spotted dolphins, sea turtles, bi-color parrot fish and more. Humpback whales visit Costa Rica between mid-July to late October and again in mid-December through late February.

The tour starts off from Uvita beach, where you will meet your friendly and knowledgeable guides and captain. As safety is their number one priority, they will bring on board lifejackets for everyone, lots of water, and go over on board safety rules.

Throughout your trip, you will stop at a few different landmarks to go whale watching and snorkeling, such as the Whale’s Tail, Ballena Island, Tres Hermanas Islets and Ventana Sea Caves. Your captain will choose the best spot for snorkeling (dry season only - please see notes below) depending on that day and you will have the opportunity to take advantage of the high-quality and clean snorkeling gear as you jump into the glimmering ocean waters to explore the colorful underwater world. Your guide and captain will tell you interesting facts about the surrounding vegetation and wildlife you may see.

You will also get to visit the Ventana Caves, a rock formation of over 200 caves created naturally through the tectonic movements of the earth created throughout thousands of years.

During your trip your guide will crack open the cooler and provide fresh tropical fruit, as well as water and beverages while you can relax and enjoy the sunshine and beautiful surroundings in paradise. Included on this half-day tour is bottled water, fresh fruit, guide, boat, snorkeling gear. Transportation can take up to an hour each way depending on lodging location. Please note that snorkeling is only available during the dry months due to visibility.

IMPORTANT: The snorkeling portion of this tour is only reliably good from December through April and is usually not included as an activity the rest of the year. Sometimes, when the weather is cooperative at other times of the year, snorkeling may be offered but should not be expected, and often the water clarity is not great. It is important to consider that if you do not have experience traveling in small boats in the open sea where the boat is constantly moving, you may experience seasickness and dizziness. This is not the responsibility of the provider and often a motion sickness pill will not prevent you from feeling this way. Please take this into consideration before booking the activity as it is your own responsibility, not the tour operator or PTW.

We saw a mother and baby humpback. The ride there was way longer than we were expecting so I wish that was better communicated.

very small boat. Got very nauseous and sea sick ( my fault). But happy we seen some whales.

We loved our guide, Stephanie, who was really knowledgeable about the area and spoke good English. We wished there had been more time devoted to snorkeling on this trip. We were able to be in the water for 15 minutes only out of the whole tour. We were able to see some small colorful fish. Most of the time was spent driving back and forth in the same passages (which were gorgeous) looking for dolphins; we eventually saw two or three. Would skip this if I knew then what I know now. It took about an hour to get here from Quepos.
