Uvita brings together rainforest-covered hills and the Pacific shoreline around Marino Ballena National Park. Open days leave time to enjoy the coast at your own pace.

Farther south, Cabo Matapalo offers a different rhythm, with lowland rainforest and Pacific views. Time at the lodge leaves room to choose outings that interest you and simply enjoy the setting.

San Jose gives this honeymoon its city opening. The starting night at Grano de Oro places you in a restored Victorian mansion before the scenery changes to Uvita’s rainforest-covered hills and coast. It is a short city chapter within a journey built around the southern Pacific.

On Day 4, the starting Combo Tour Snorkeling, Caves, and Whale Watching takes you along the Uvita coast by boat. Snorkeling is normally available December through April, subject to conditions, and wildlife sightings are not guaranteed. The open days on either side leave room for your own plans. If mangroves appeal more than open water, the Tour to the Mangroves of Terraba is an optional replacement to discuss with your planner.

Cabo Matapalo changes the pace from a coastal boat outing to lowland Osa rainforest. In the starting Lapa Rios stay, Days 7 and 8 leave time to choose from the lodge’s activity menu, including Early Birdwatching Tour, Wild Waterfalls, Rainforest Ridge Hike and Night Walk Tour. These choices apply to Lapa Rios and depend on timing and conditions; another lodge has its own arrangements. The return domestic flight leads to your final night among Xandari’s gardens near Alajuela before departure from SJO.

Alajuela gives the final night a Central Valley setting after the domestic return flight. At the starting Xandari stay, your Prima Villa has private gardens and a terrace, with room views varying by villa. Breakfast is included before your private transfer to SJO. This is a different finish from Uvita’s marine outing and the lowland rainforest days in Cabo Matapalo, with the final arrival and departure schedule shaping your time at the hotel.

The starting Lapa Rios activity menu also includes Local Medicine Tour, Osa Trail Hike, Matapalo Tour, Sunset Birdwatching Tour and Plant a Tree, alongside the birdwatching, waterfall, ridge and night-walk choices described above. Days 7 and 8 leave time for these lodge choices, confirmed for your stay and subject to timing and conditions; they are not separate guaranteed bookings.

• What if you prefer mangroves to an open-sea outing? Ask about replacing the Uvita Combo Tour with the Tour to the Mangroves of Terraba. It is an optional alternative for the activity slot, subject to confirmation, rather than an additional included tour.
• Why keep the San Jose and Alajuela nights? The starting plan opens with Grano de Oro’s restored Victorian mansion and finishes among Xandari’s gardens after the domestic return flight, giving the coast-and-forest stay a different setting at each end.
