Westin Playa Conchal Resort and Spa

Central Guanacaste

Good to Know

The Westin Playa Conchal Resort and Spa offers a luxurious, all-inclusive escape on a sprawling 2,400-acre property in Central Guanacaste. Guests can enjoy a lagoon-style pool, seven restaurants, five bars, and a range of activities from non-motorized water sports to an 18-hole golf course. With diverse accommodations, including an adults-only Westin Club, this 5-star resort provides a sophisticated beach stay with choices for every traveler. Its all-inclusive plan covers select meals, drinks, and activities, ensuring a seamless vacation experience.

A beach stay with choices to make

Playa Conchal gives a Westin Reserva Conchal vacation an inviting starting point: time along the beach, a swim in the lagoon-style pool and dinner without leaving the resort. Across the sprawling 2,400-acre Guanacaste property, restaurants, bars, family activities and golf give a day several possible shapes. Choose it for a coastal stay with room to be active or relaxed, and let the resort itself have time in the itinerary.

Give a resort day its own choices

Seven restaurants and five bars give evenings variety, with 24-hour room service for another way to dine. Swimming pools and whirlpools, a fitness gym, activities center, weekly program and nightly shows widen the hours back at the resort. Kayaks, stand-up paddleboards and snorkeling equipment bring active coastal time into reach, while tennis and the Westin Kids Club add ways for families to enjoy staying close.

Golfers can plan around the 18-hole, par-71 Robert Trent Jones course, while the beach provides swimming and snorkeling. Spa and beauty-salon treatments offer a quieter afternoon. The all-inclusive plan has precise inclusions and exclusions, so separate the activities you wish to arrange at extra cost from the meals, drinks and recreation already included.

Explore the coast beyond the grounds

Liberia airport is about 45 minutes away, and Tamarindo around 20 minutes by car for shopping, restaurants, bars and nightlife. Nearby Brasilito brings a fishing-village setting and souvenir browsing into the coastal stay. Arrange a taxi or transfer if you would prefer to leave the driving to someone else, then return for dinner or a show at the resort.

Choose your family space or Club experience

Accommodation choices make a difference to how a family or group uses the hours between outings. Deluxe Junior Suites and Family Junior Suites are 538 square feet and sleep up to four. Premium Junior Suites add a separate bedroom within 861 square feet, also for up to four. The 1,162-square-foot Family Master Suite has separate living and dining rooms and a Jacuzzi for two in the master bathroom, with accommodation for up to four guests. Air conditioning, cable television, mini-fridges, safes, phones and coffee service provide the shared comforts.

The adults-only Westin Club section offers a different stay, with a lounge, select premium alcoholic drinks, a private pool with Bali beds and concierge service, complimentary internet in the lounge and rooms, and preferential reservations for golf, tennis, spa and specialty restaurants. Club Rooms are 474 square feet and sleep up to four; Club Suites are 990 square feet for up to four, with a separate dining room and living room with a sofa bed. The Club pool has scheduled maintenance from September 1 through October 31, 2026, so consider those dates if that pool is part of what draws you to the category.

What makes this stay worth choosing

  • Playa Conchal fronts a sprawling 2,400-acre resort, with lagoon-style pool time and coastal swims or snorkeling giving beach days several different shapes.
  • The all-inclusive plan covers select meals and alcoholic/non-alcoholic drinks, 24-hour room service and one daily refreshment-center stocking; a second refill costs extra.
  • Seven restaurants and five bars give evenings variety, while the resort’s dining and activity options help families settle into a day without arranging every stop elsewhere.
  • Non-motorized water sports, nightly shows, table games and Kids Club access are included, as is tennis until 6 pm; the weekly activity program offers more ways to spend time together.
  • Room sizes and separate living spaces help you choose for a party of up to four, while the adults-only Westin Club adds lounge access, select premium drinks, private-pool and concierge benefits.
  • Golf and spa treatments cost extra, as do the other expressly excluded services. Review the full plan details when choosing rather than expecting every resort activity, drink or transfer to be included.
  • Brasilito is nearby, Tamarindo about 20 minutes by car and Liberia airport about 45 minutes away; taxis or transfers offer an alternative to driving yourself.
  • Pacific Trade Winds provides package pricing only under its tour operator contract. Bedding requests are confirmed at check-in and are not guaranteed when booking.
  • Westin Club pool maintenance is scheduled September 1–October 31, 2026; check how those dates affect your plans if the Club pool is part of the appeal.

Food was not nearly as good as I recall when I was there 10 years ago.

Great resort!

My only wish was that the tv in the room was accessible for all and not just for the main bed. Also, they should definitely have another mirror besides the one in the bathroom, so you can continue to get ready while someone else is taking a shower.

The hotel was great. Food and pools were fantastic.

The Westin was a completely different world, compared to El Mangroove. It was a perfect compliment after a couple low key, relaxing days. It was a world within itself and was so much larger compared to El Mangroove. The beach was beautiful. We really appreciated the club area and kid free pool. The only down side was our last night when I was trying to relax and enjoy the quiet kids free pool area. There were a group of kids hanging out and drinking in the pool after. Also, we did not realize that dinner reservations need to be made in advance as they can book out. Luckily, we liked eating late and the staff helped us make reservations at all the restaurants we wanted to enjoy.

Wonderful resort!! We loved everything about this resort except for the dinner reservation system. It was very poorly organized and not automated. We had to fight to get reservations and no one responded. And the restaruatnts weren't even full, when they had said they were full. They were empty but apparently there were no tables to reserve. Made no sense.

The staff at reception did not meet my expectations. We spoke to several different staff and received several different answers. Very frustrating. In the end, our needs were met.

Marianne D.

Our patio and window view faced the air conditioner and maintenance area of the resort - not very picturesque - but overall the room was excellent.

We chose this all inclusive resort to finish our trip, to spoil ourselves per the amenities. We are not usually "all inclusive" oriented and we reminded ourselves why we rarely go to such resorts. Despite this we enjoyed ourselves as planned and we made the most of what was offered. From our first greeting upon arrival we sensed a somewhat "smug" attitude, not as personal and warm as we enjoyed everywhere else. We were spoiled by the "anniversary" extras we had received with genuine warmth and unexpected acknowledgement. At the Westin we felt more like just another number. Although they told us we had been upgraded to a great location we think we would had preferred a little quieter location. Our apparent upgrade was well located per the amenities but the negative was the noise from the loud disco music by the pool and being too close to those "large" groups or parties enjoying the resort a little too much selfishly amplified by alcohol etc . It is an expensive resort well located with a beautiful beach but maybe too large for our comfort. We wanted to relax in the warmth of the surf, sand and sun which we did but I am sure there are other options and better value to exceed our preferences.

Well run and managed for a huge facility. So large and a bit overwhelming. Disappointed in the adjacent beach. The restaurant reservation system was quite annoying; did not feel in a vacation relaxed mode when you had to reserve way ahead of time. In addition, the walk-in meal opportunities were relatively sparse. Next time we will aim for a smaller, more boutique type of establishment.

I was disappointed with the service. I had request distilled water and on check in was asked to pay US $ 18 in cash for it. I found that very odd later as there was no record or proof of this transaction. I found that quite pricey as distilled water is not expensive. I was not charged extra for the same water at Arenal resort. The quality of food was not good at one of the restaurants and the other restaurants was just okay.

Gorgeous hotel, great service.

Shuttle operators were very friendly and accommodating. Front desk staff was so-so.

The food in some of the restaurants was slightly below par.

Synetta J.

The anniversary dinner and cake and drinks were great and we were very pleased with the staff at this venue

Los desayunos son buenos, pero el resto comida en los restaurantes necesita mejorar. Todo el staff de hotel eran muy serviciales y corteses. Tardanzas comida sin sabor y no completamente terminada.

Guest review

The grounds of the resort were beautiful! Vast lawn areas and gardens everywhere. The rooms were comfortable and each of ours had a porch or area to sit out. The pool was huge and not crowded. There were plenty of seats around the pool and many in the shade so we were able to get comfortable without having to "save" seats for our group. The restaurants were able to seat our big group without any trouble. The beach was only a few steps away and offered the most beautiful sunset pictures you could ever wish for. All staff that we interacted with were pleasant and helpful. The best part of our stay there was the monkeys! We didn't need a tour to be able to see them and the other wild life right on the grounds. We had great fun and many photo ops of the monkeys flying from tree to tree and just crossing the grounds right in front of our rooms. The resort was big, but walkable to the restaurants and pools or with a simple phone call, a shuttle was sent quickly to your room or where ever to transport you to your destination. Again, at this resort, check in was ready for us and the staff was organized and helped us quickly through the process of getting room assignments, keys and info about the resort. Check out was quick and easy and shuttles were sent right on time for luggage pickup. I would stay there again and have not a single doubt about recommending this resort to others.

Overall a beautiful hotel and grounds. Some of the staff was fantastic, most were great, and a couple were subpar. The pool floor was too sharp and ripped the skin of our toes after relatively minimal use.

Rachel B.

Beautiful hotel - a bit over-whelming until you understood the place and how it all works! We were a bit far from everything - so would request to be a bit closer to restaurants and pool.

Elvin L.

The facilities and staff were excellent. Were the hotel scored poorly was lack of activities especially at night.

Robin V.

This is a beautiful spot. The bungalows are really spacious and lovely. The beach is a bit underwhelming. Right outside the resort you are met by a ton of locals asking if you want a massage or tour. The Westin does not own the beach so you feel kind of attacked going to the beach. The beach is nice but it has a lot of shells. The pool is great but it is hot. They really can't keep it cool enough to be refreshing. That said, the staff are amazing. The food is great. The grounds are beautiful and we saw at least two dozen monkeys. It's lovely. I just felt like compared to Arenal Springs, it felt more "American Costa Rica" than authentic "Costa Rica".

Arnel P.

It’s was a Westin I thought the grounds would be nicer. The rooms were nice. Pools close at 6:00. Hard to get a drink. Hard to get reservations.

Abhishek K.

This was our first all-inclusive hotel. Our stay at the Westin Playa Conchal was mindblowing! The restaurants, activities, and sights were amazing!
