Next you will go by horseback or horse drawn carriage up the volcano to the beginning of an easy guided hike to observe bubbling mud and steam vents, stopping to enjoy several scenic mountain waterfalls. Then you can immerse yourself in the natural woodland hot springs and mud baths breathing in the mountain air surrounded by lush tropical foliage. Afterwards you’ll be treated to a hearty Costa Rican traditional meal before boarding the bus to head back through the mountains to your hotel. Note that one way transport times from El Jobo can take up to 3 hours, other locations between 1 and 2.5 hours depending upon which area you are staying.

One of the natural wonders of Costa Rica is the brilliant blue waters at Rio Celeste. This is a special guided hiking tour only for guests staying at the Rio Celeste Hideaway Hotel. It begins at the hotel’s reception area where you will meet your guide who will take you into Tenorio National Park. After a short upwards hike, you will see the beautiful 300-foot Rio Celeste Waterfall cascading into a turquoise pool. There are 250 well-constructed steps with a handrail you can take down to an observation platform located next to the falls for amazing photos. After coming back up the steps, you’ll catch your breath before resuming your hike along the natural trails in the rainforest. You will take short rests at several more observation platforms until you reach the end of the trail to see the two mineral-rich rivers join turning their brown waters into one bright blue river. You’ll pause for a provided fruit snack before returning to the park entrance. This 4 to 5 hour moderate hiking tour includes a bilingual guide, park entrance, and a fruit snack. It is available only for guests staying at the adjacent Rio Celeste Hideaway Hotel, therefore transportation is NOT necessary. Please wear fully enclosed hiking shoes as the trail can become muddy during the wetter months. Long pants and long sleeve lightweight clothing are recommended along with bug repellent, bottled water, rain gear, camera, and binoculars.

Your exploration continues beyond the falls to the mystical Blue Lagoon and, time permitting, the volcanic thermal vents, creating a full day of discovery that includes round-trip transportation, a bilingual naturalist guide, park entrance fees, and lunch. Here you can sauna, soak, and paint your partner with mud. Transportation included locally in Rincon de la Vieja (30 minutes), from as far away as the Jobo area in the interior, and from the beach areas of Tamarindo, Papagayo, Flamingo and Playa Grande (plan on up to 2 hours travel time each way). Weight restrictions apply for certain activities so please tell us if you weigh over 200 pounds. Minimum age is 8 years old and this tour is not recommended for people with back problems or pregnant women. Available three days only during high season from 15 December to 01 April on: Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. This fun filled day has something for everyone, adrenaline seekers or nature lovers. Come with us and enjoy gliding through the forest during the canopy tour, then slide down the 400 mts. (1200 ft.) water slide, after these two activities, a delicious lunch will give us the energy to ride the horses to get to a beautiful natural spa surrounded by a lush forest, at this place you will have the opportunity to soothe your muscles with therapeutic volcanic mud and hot water pools. What makes this combo different than the regular one is the Extreme Canopy Tour. A new set of cables and platforms crossing over and beyond canyons and forests, involving a ¼ mile hike thru the primary forest. This canopy consists of 12 platforms and 7 cables distances from 300 feet to 1155 feet in length with approximate heights to 120 to 300 ft. You will have the opportunity to relax and take some pictures at some strategic points with spectacular views of the Papagayo Gulf, the amazing mountain hills, majestic Rincón de la Vieja Volcano and in winter time view the beautiful view waterfall “El Cañón". At the end of the canopy get ready for more adrenaline with our Tarzan Swing, which is properly fitted for our clients, once ready get ready to make a free fall, suspended at an approximate height of 150 feet. During this tour, you can see different types of birds, monkeys and other animals. Age restrictions: 3-7-year-old children must be tandem with a guide. 8-year-old and older children can take the tour on their own.
