When you fly into Liberia International Airport, in northwestern Costa Rica, a representative will meet you and provide transportation to your hotel at Arenal Volcano, just outside the town of La Fortuna. Your beautifully landscaped resort, the Magic Mountain Hotel & Spa, faces the massive volcano and features a large freeform swimming pool, tropical gardens, and magnifient views of the volcano. You’ll stay in the Superior Room, which is comfortably furnished, with air conditioning, a minifridge, cable TV, and large terrace or balcony. With a top-notch spa and a stunning swimming pool offering breathtaking views, guests can indulge in ultimate relaxation. Immerse yourself in rejuvenating spa treatments or take a refreshing dip in the pool while surrounded by the beauty of nature. Waking up the next day, you’ll be in for a real treat whitewater rafting down the beautiful Rio Balsa. A van will take you to the river where you’ll meet your guides, including a safety kayaker, who will go over everything you need to know before you launch together in a large inflatable whitewater raft. You’ll head downriver for about 2 hours of nonstop thrilling adventure shooting over Class ll and lll rapids surrounded by tropical jungle. Along the way, you’ll pull over to swim in the refreshing water then at the end, when you are back on dry land, you’ll be treated to a traditional style Costa Rican lunch. A hard act to follow, right? Actually, the very next day you’ll be taken by 4-wheel drive vehicle up a mountain deep within the rainforest where you’ll hike to a series of waterfalls and go rappelling. Each waterfall offers a different experience, one over 150 feet high! Don’t worry, your professional guides will be tending a safety line each time you descend. The last rappel with take you down a dry canyon face. Depending on the time of day, a hearty ranch lunch will be served either before or after your expedition. You’ll sure appreciate those hot springs back at the hotel when you get back!

Next, you’ll leave the temperate rainforest interior and make a beeline for the beach! Playa Flamingo, located on the Pacific side of the Nicoya Peninsula, is recognized as a Blue Flag beach for its calm, clean tides and sustainable upkeep. It presents the perfect beach paradise with its classic crescent shape of smooth white sand, gentle surf for swimming, and shade trees with branches touching the ground. It’s no wonder Jimmy Buffett decided to open a Margaritaville Beach Resort here!  And that’s where you’ll be staying, in the all-inclusive beachfront hotel, with lots of fun activities, several swimming pools, a swim-up bar, Jacuzzi, lighted tennis courts, the list goes on. Not to mention the excellent fresh seafood dishes served up in the Banana Wind Restaurant, and oh, of course, the cheeseburger in paradise! Best one around and drinks are included. Itinerary

Day 1:  Liberia International Airport to Arenal Volcano

Welcome to Costa Rica! A representative will meet you when you land then provide private transportation to your hotel located outside the town of La Fortuna near the Arenal Volcano.

Day 2:  Whitewater Rafting Rio Balsa (B, L)

After being picked up and taken to the river, you’ll meet your guides and go whitewater rafting for approximately 2 hours depending on the current. You’ll stop for a swim and at the end, you’ll be treated to lunch before returning to your hotel.

Day 3:  Canyoning Pure Trek Ultimate Adventure Rappel (B, L)

You’ll be taken to a ranch where your guides will drive you by 4-wheel drive 30 minutes up a mountain to begin your adventure. You’ll hike to 4 waterfalls rappelling over each one plus one dry canyon face. The ranch will provide lunch either before or after your tour. Bring dry clothes to change into and wear closed shoes. Later you can soak your muscles in the hotel’s hot tub!

Day 4:  Arenal Volcano to Playa Flamingo (B, D)

Transport will be provided as you follow a scenic drive along Lake Arenal and inland rural countryside until you arrive at Playa Flamingo on the Pacific northwest coast. Here you’ll stay at Jimmy Buffett’s all-inclusive Margaritaville Beach Hotel.

Day 5:  Free Day – Beach Day Playa Flamingo (all-inclusive)

The next few days are yours to relax and enjoy the perfect beach vacation. Your beachfront resort offers a lot of onsite activities and the long stretch of Blue Flag beach offers excellent safe swimming and leisurely walks.

Day 6:  Free Day – Beach Day Playa Flamingo (all-inclusive)

In addition to lounging about, you might like to explore the quiet but growing town of Flamingo or take a taxi to Tamarindo to pick up the vibe. You can also easily customize your itinerary if you would like to add an additional tour.

Today you’ll pack your bags and be driven by private transport to the Liberia International Airport scheduled to accommodate your personal flight time. Adios Amigos!

Playa Flamingo, Guanacaste

Long a hidden treasure on Costa Rica’s northwestern Nicoya Peninsula, Playa Flamingo has recently been discovered thanks to better road access and the opening of Liberia International Airport. It’s still a quiet area with most of the upscale development away from the beach so you can enjoy walking the long stretch of white sand without the hustle and bustle found in other beach towns. The gentle tides make it great for swimming and it proudly holds the international Blue Flag certification for its pristine condition, safety, and sustainability. Long twisting branches reach down from the trees providing shade, a handy towel rack, and possibly an iguana or two. With its clear turquoise water, it truly is a paradise! A famous off-shore fishing and diving area, there’s plenty to do besides worshipping the sun every day, although the daily sunsets are spectacular. Imagine rafting over Class ll and lll rapids through Costa Rica’s beautiful rainforested jungle rivers! The whitewater action in this section of the Rio Balsa is non-stop although the guides will pull over at some point, so you can go for a refreshing swim and take in the amazing view. Located not far from La Fortuna and the Arenal Volcano, this area, known as the Adventure Capital of Central America, features a year-round temperate climate, verdant forests to explore, natural hot springs, waterfalls, and of course, wonderful rivers set deep in the jungle. Your professional guides will go over safety instructions then go with you as you splash and dash your way downriver. Canyoning Pure Trek Ultimate Adventure Rappel

One of the best rappelling experiences in Costa Rica! First of all, you’redrivenup the side of a mountain in a 4-wheel drive vehicle. At the top, you go for a short hike to the first waterfall platform. Your professional guides will help you connect your body harness to the rappelling ropes then off you go, down through cavernous waterfalls kicking off with your feet and splashing in the falls. At the bottom, another guide will unhook your lines as you go wandering off with a huge smile on your face. You’ll hike through amazing trails in areas totally inaccessible by car, surrounded by giant leaves of rainforest plants and trees, smelling the richness of the moist earth beneath your feet. Until you reach another waterfall, this time a little longer, a little wetter. There are 4 waterfall rappels in all, from 50 to 165 feet, and one dry canyon rappel. Depending on the time of day, you’ll have lunch either before or after your adventure.
