It begins at the hotel’s reception area where you will meet your guide who will take you into Tenorio National Park. After a short upwards hike, you will see the beautiful 300-foot Rio Celeste Waterfall cascading into a turquoise pool. There are 250 well-constructed steps with a handrail you can take down to an observation platform located next to the falls for amazing photos. After coming back up the steps, you’ll catch your breath before resuming your hike along the natural trails in the rainforest. You will take short rests at several more observation platforms until you reach the end of the trail to see the two mineral-rich rivers join turning their brown waters into one bright blue river. You’ll pause for a provided fruit snack before returning to the park entrance. This 4 to 5 hour moderate hiking tour includes a bilingual guide, park entrance, and a fruit snack. It is available only for guests staying at the adjacent Rio Celeste Hideaway Hotel, therefore transportation is NOT necessary. Please wear fully enclosed hiking shoes as the trail can become muddy during the wetter months. Long pants and long sleeve lightweight clothing are recommended along with bug repellent, bottled water, rain gear, camera, and binoculars.

The Mistico Arenal Hanging Bridges offer an amazing glimpse into the canopy of the rainforest! The hike includes terrestrial trails and bridges through the tree tops allowing you to view the forest from all perspectives. All of the 15 bridges vary in height and length and provide an interesting way to observe the rainforest canopy. In addition to learning about the jungle, you may also be fortunate enough to see wild animals such as monkeys, sloths, toucans, or iguanas. Wildlife observation is not guaranteed on this tour but often occurs and your guide will be ready with a spotting scope should animals decide to make an appearance. It is important to mention that open sandals or shoes are NOT permitted on this tour. Then you will visit the famous La Fortuna Waterfalls. A professional bilingual guide will accompany you to the observation platform at the top of the falls. You can then choose to take the 70 meter (225 foot) hike down to the base of the falls for a refreshing swim, or just relax and enjoy the view from above. Please be sure to inform us of any health conditions that may affect your ability to participate in the hike. NOTE: This activity is not recommended for children under 5 years old and parents will need to stay with all children throughout the hike. 

IMPORTANT: From April 15 - May 31, 2025, we will carry out preventive maintenance that cannot be postponed on the El Tolomuco Suspension Bridge. The access to the main trail will remain open as normal as a side trail will be open to pass by the bridge. Thank you for your understanding while we continue to improve our offerings.

Next, you’ll visit a sugarcane mill driven by huge oxen where you can participate in the process of extracting juice from cane to make sugar. Then it will be time to return to the Lodge for a hearty traditional midday meal prepared by locals. Order of events may change. At the Lodge, you will also visit a tree nursery supporting the future of the forest and providing local jobs and educational opportunities. Included in this tour are a certified guide, lunch, plus round-trip transportation from Manuel Antonio and Quepos. A four-wheel all-terrain vehicle may be used during the tour.
